Help Stephanie Fight MDS

Donation protected

My sister, Stephanie Burgh, is fighting MDS.
From Stephanie:

Up until July 2014 my life seemed pretty normal. Being a 38 year old stay at home mom, keeping the kids busy through the summer, and just living life. Who would've thought that shortly thereafter things would drastically change.

On August 6, 2014 I was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a type of bone cancer, after a bone marrow biopsy. MDS is not usually seen in people my age so I'm sort of an anomaly to my doctors, nurses and anyone else that knows what this disease is. Both my hematologist here at home and oncologist at the SCCA agreed that I am a good candidate for a bone marrow transplant. We have started the process of searching for a bone marrow donor and I am very lucky to have two of my sisters and my brother willing to be tested to see if they may be a match. It takes time to find a match and start the process so we are playing a waiting game.

While we wait my life now is very different. It consists of chemo, blood transfusions, and doctors visits -- just to help sustain me for the time being. Once the transplant operation starts I will be living over in Seattle for roughly four months in the hopes that the transplant takes and I'm on the road to healing. In those four months Eric and the kids will have to carry on with their daily lives without me but we are hoping they can visit as often as possible.

Stephanie's family are hopeful that raising money will help offset medical costs and transportation costs/lodging for the family to visit her while she is hospitalized. Please help if you can!
