Stephanie to Thailand - Loop Abroad

My name is Stephanie Anastasi, and I am a 19 year old who lives in an area not far outside of Boston, Massachusetts. I’m a full-time student in my sophomore year at a community college. When I’m not at school, I keep myself busy with one (or both) of my two jobs, enjoy long, romantic walks to the refrigerator, and spend a good chunk of time on the computer living under my social media alter-ego—follow me on Twitter @elephan7s! Wait, what’s that? Yes, it’s a play on the word elephant, conveniently my favorite animal for as long as I can remember, and this is coming from a girl with elephants on her personal checks... In this small town I live in, not too many individuals “break free” so to say. A lot of students I attended high school with are all at in-state colleges or universities. So who am I, a girl who has never even been on a plane let alone out of the country, asking for your donations to attend this program? I’d like to think of myself as a hard-working, dedicated, gregarious young female with a genuine excitement for new life experiences. I believe getting necessary funds to give me the opportunity to be involved in the Thailand 101  program would help give me a sense of appreciation for different cultures, embrace the passion I have to travel, and broaden my horizon on life in general.

I feel I would be an asset to the Loop Abroad's  program not only for my inquisitiveness to explore new things, but for my unrelenting positivity I have had people compliment me on in more than one occasion. I’ve had personal friends and coworkers tell me I can always put a positive twist on just about anything. In both of my jobs I need to manage a composed sense of customer service, so even when I get erratic customers who speak broken English, I give my best efforts to find a way to calm them, help them figure out what the issue is at hand, and assist them with a guided solution. I enjoy trying new things for not only myself but urging others to as well, and I know food would be a large one of those things I would like to check off of my list for sure. When it comes to staying at the Elephant Nature Park and helping out with the elephants, I would have no problem getting my hands dirty. Growing up with two older brothers, you need to keep up to earn your respect from them. Watching Top Gear (the British version, of course), hiking mountains and toughing it out through the pain of bumps and bruises, and getting stuck doing all of their yardwork my parents wanted done, I know how to “rough it”.

Living in my hometown of Billerica, Massachusetts, there isn’t a variety in cultural backgrounds; the diversity of our population is rather limited. Many people who start out their lives in this town often come back after school and settle into their careers and have families. I’m currently at school to receive my Associate’s degree in Business, and after this spring semester, I’m looking forward to transferring to give myself a specific major in the world of business. With the vastness of business, I feel like understanding other backgrounds is certainly critical. My family has been relatively sheltered in that aspect; I’ve traveled outside of the New England area maybe twice in my life. I’d like to break the mold and travel to one of the areas I have a true desire to visit, Southeast Asia, and not only go for my own personal benefit, but for what I want to get out of it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my GoFundMe. Any donation amounts would be greatly accepted, and I would be so humbled and indebted to have the chance to take this trip. I wouldn't be able to do it without your help! This isn't something I'm asking money for as my own "vacation" but a volunteer trip with so many new and exciting things for me to learn--I may not be a veterinarian, but I do believe that what this program has to offer is a great exposure for me to be immersed in the culture, meet new people, and volunteer in the city.
