Stephanie was diagnosed with a Cavernoma Malformation (Mass reproduction of the Capillaries) in September of 2012. The mass (she referrs to as Oscar) is located both inside and outside of her spinal cord between her C4 and T1. The mass causes restricted blood flow to all her extremities and as a result, she has experienced severe atrophy throughout her body.
In 2015, she became wheelchair bound after a fall due to the deterioration of her muscles. Every day she continues to push through regardless of her challenges! She attends therapy twice a week in hopes to even just maintain what muscle she has left.
Stephanie does not view herself as handicap, she views herself as special and strives to inflict her infectious positive attitude on everyone she comes in contact with!
Stephanie and Trae found out early this year that they are expecting a baby boy and through this we have discovered both blessings and challenges ahead! The doctors never thought she would be able to carry a child and this amazing and beautiful couple could not be happier about the addition to their family.
Although this is quite an amazing gift, we have come to realize there is some very intricate equipment that she is going to need in order to care for their child. We found out that she is not supposed to lift more than 6-8 pounds due to the risk of causing the mass to bleed and since it encompasses the entire width of her spinal cord, the result most likely would be instant paralysis.
Any help that we can provide for Trae, Stephanie and their baby would be very much appreciated!!! With your prayers and donations we will be able to make her world become more handicap accessible and allow her to care for their child without as much risk.
