Hi, my name is Stef Stewart and I'm a forager and community herbalist based in Dunfermline, Scotland through my business Oak and Wildflower . I teach others about how to forage for food and medicine and create their own home remedies, as well as how to connect with nature in a mindful way.
In April, I'm planning to take part in the Wildbiome Project, a study organised by experienced forager, herbalist and researcher, Mo Wilde.
The point of the project is to eat ONLY wild food (foraged or caught) for either one or three months, and see what effects this primal way of eating has on our gut microbiome and overall health.
I'm excited to have volunteered to take part in the project for one month, but I need your help raising the funds to take part in the various tests that will help provide the results of this study. On top of this I will need to purchase some wild food that I cannot forage/catch myself.
More about The Wildbiome Project
In 2024, 26 foragers participated the pilot project, eating only wild foraged and caught food for 3 months, while monitoring changes to their health. They had some amazing results, with a reduction in chronic illness symptoms, improvement in cholesterol and and blood pressure levels and more.
This time around, over 100 people are taking part! And in order to gain a more accurate picture as to what is going on in our bodies while eating the food, we will be doing a variety of blood and stool tests, along with recording everything we eat.
More about what I'll be eating
I am a vegetarian and mostly plant-based eater, but for this project I will also be including fresh caught fish and organic eggs into my diet (which I will need to purchase), to ensure I get the proteins and fats that I need to remain healthy.
I will be eating lots of fresh foraged greens (such as nettles, dandelion and wild garlic), edible wild flowers, as well as nuts, berries, mushrooms and seaweeds that I have foraged and preserved prior to the project starting.
I am also open to receiving donations of dried or frozen foraged food, such as mushrooms, seaweeds, plants and berries etc. If you'd like to donate food, please reach out!
Thank you for your support!
Stef
