Support Stefanie’s Olympic Dream!

My name is Stefanie Schoenberger and it's my goal to represent Canada at the Olympics!

I am 25 years old and originally from Cranbrook, BC. I currently live in Abbotsford, BC. I attended Mount Baker Secondary School and College of the Rockies prior to transferring to University of the Fraser Valley to complete my degree in biology. I have spent the last seven years working in the field of biology, but my passion for sport has always been an incredibly important part of my life. During my time at College of the Rockies and University of the Fraser Valley, I was involved in many different sports and have always been committed to training to be the best athlete possible. I have always dreamed of competing at the highest level and now I have been given a chance to achieve that dream!

In February 2018, I (like many Canadians) was watching the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. While watching the bobsleigh events, I noticed that the women in the program were built a lot like me. I had been working on a powerlifting routine at the gym and got to wondering how it was that these women got to become bobsledders - so I decided to do some research. I found the Discover Bobsleigh program at Whistler Sliding Centre and once I got a taste of the speed and adrenaline, I was hooked. In March 2018 I was asked by a pilot to be her brakeman for the BC Champs race in Whistler, BC and we came out winning a gold medal. In just those few weeks, I knew that this was the sport for me.

After the race, the sliding season was over but I continued training my heart out during the spring and summer months to become stronger and faster for the upcoming season. I participated in three recruitment camps throughout the off-season and was asked in October to slide with the Canadian Team as a brakeman during their selection races. Following these selection races I was chosen as a brakeman for the Canadian National Development Team! This winter I will compete for Canada in the North American Cup circuit and represent our country in some amazing places around Canada and the United States. Moving forward, I hope to represent Canada in the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Here's where I need your help. Athletes selected for the National Development Team are required to pay a team fee of $3000 before they can travel and compete with the team. In addition, there are various pieces of equipment required for the sport. These include a burn vest and helmet to keep me safe while sliding, and a set of brush spikes that allow me to run on the ice. Furthermore, I have had to step away from my career as a biologist in order to pursue my dream of Olympic sport. Any help to bring me closer to my goal would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all for your support. Go Canada!
