<div>My name is Stefan Arce Ruiz. I am 23 years old and I am from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

<div>I am currently bedridden and unable to care for myself. I live with severe ME/CFS, severe dysautonomia, movement disorders, chronic pain, severe malnutrition, gastrointestinal dysfunction, neurological symptoms, and extreme sensory and cognitive intolerance.

<div>Before becoming severely ill, I had dreams, interests, and a personality beyond illness. I loved food culture, history, travel, strategy games, and learning about the world. I wanted to build a meaningful life. But over the last few years, my health has deteriorated to the point where basic survival has become my daily reality.

</div>
<div>My symptoms began around 2020, with unusual fatigue, dizziness, tachycardia, postural symptoms, and a level of exhaustion that did not feel normal. Over time, my illness became progressive and multisystemic. What began as fatigue and autonomic instability eventually became a severe condition affecting my nervous system, digestion, breathing, swallowing, movement, cognition, sleep, pain, and ability to tolerate stimulation.

<div>By 2023, my condition had become dramatically worse. I developed extreme weakness, severe fatigue, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, neurological symptoms, involuntary movements, tics, dyskinesias, dystonia, chronic pain, sensory overload, dysautonomia, and severe post-exertional malaise after minimal activity. I eventually became bedridden and lost the ability to function independently.

<div>Today, I cannot care for myself. I cannot reliably sit up, move, prepare anything, manage my medical needs, or protect myself during crashes. I depend on another person for basic care.
</div>

</div>
<div>Right now, my only caregiver is my father. He is doing everything he can, but my needs are constant, complex, and far beyond what one person should have to manage alone.
</div>

</div>
<div>My severe ME/CFS causes dangerous crashes and neurological episodes from sensory and cognitive overload. Sensory overload can be triggered by light, sound, smells, touch, movement around me, or the presence of another person. Cognitive overload can be triggered by hearing someone speak even a few words, trying to process information, making decisions, using my phone, or simply having another person present in my dark, silent room.

<div>These overload episodes can cause seizure-like crises, severe pain, dysautonomia, involuntary movements, dystonia, agitation, neurological shutdown, and extreme post-exertional malaise. I am currently experiencing new and worsening PEM crashes that feel like my body and brain are being pushed beyond their limits.

<div>I also have severe brain fog. My brain often cannot process information normally. Thinking, listening, speaking, reading, or using my phone can cause severe worsening. Even writing this or communicating about my needs can cause intense physical pain and neurological overload.
</div>

<div>Using my phone currently hurts me severely, but it is sometimes the only way I can communicate, ask for help, explain my needs, or try to organize support. Even small messages can cost me a lot physically.
</div>

</div>
<div>I am also in a life-threatening state of severe malnutrition. I weigh approximately 30 kg and depend on medical nutrition. I currently use Peptamen 1.5, which is the formula I tolerate best, but it is expensive and costs about $230 USD per week. My nutrition is not optional; it is part of keeping me alive.

<div>I have developed severe gastrointestinal problems, including severe dysbiosis and IBS-like symptoms, which require additional treatment courses, medical management, and ongoing support. My digestion is fragile, and changes in formula, medications, feeding schedules, or stress can worsen my symptoms.

<div>I also have medical costs that are not covered by insurance, including:

<div>Hospitals have not provided the level of help I need. Despite being severely malnourished and medically fragile, I have been declined or inadequately supported by hospitals, leaving my family to manage a life-threatening situation mostly at home.

<div>This illness involves constant pain. It is not only fatigue. It is neurological pain, muscular pain, autonomic distress, gastrointestinal pain, sensory pain, and the pain of being trapped in a body that reacts severely to almost everything.

<div>I am creating this GoFundMe because my situation has become unsustainable.

<div>The GoFundMe is currently in Mexican pesos. The amount may look large locally, but 130,000 MXN is only around $7,400 USD, depending on the exchange rate. In the context of months of severe illness, medical formula, medications, doctor visits, PICC line care, feeding tube needs, possible nurses, emergency expenses, and home modifications, that amount is not much.

<div>Over the past months, money has already gone toward survival: formula, medical visits, medication, supplies, nutritional support, tube-related needs, PICC-related needs, and trying to find doctors who can help. More support is urgently needed.

<div>My goal is not comfort or luxury. My goal is survival, stabilization, and humane care.

Pero en los últimos años mi salud se ha deteriorado hasta el punto en que sobrevivir se ha convertido en mi realidad diaria.

<div>Mis síntomas comenzaron alrededor de 2020, con cansancio inusual, mareos, taquicardia, síntomas posturales y un nivel de agotamiento que no se sentía normal. Con el tiempo, mi enfermedad se volvió progresiva y multisistémica. Lo que empezó como fatiga e inestabilidad autonómica terminó afectando mi sistema nervioso, digestión, respiración, deglución, movimiento, cognición, sueño, dolor y capacidad para tolerar estímulos.

Desarrollé debilidad extrema, fatiga severa, dificultad para respirar, dificultad para tragar, síntomas neurológicos, movimientos involuntarios, tics, discinesias, distonías, dolor crónico, sobrecarga sensorial, disautonomía y malestar post-esfuerzo severo después de actividades mínimas. Eventualmente quedé postrado en cama y perdí la capacidad de funcionar de manera independiente.

<div>Hoy no puedo cuidar de mí mismo. No puedo sentarme, moverme, preparar cosas, manejar mis necesidades médicas o protegerme durante los colapsos de forma confiable. Dependo de otra persona para cuidados básicos.

<div>Actualmente, mi único cuidador es mi padre. Él está haciendo todo lo que puede, pero mis necesidades son constantes, complejas y demasiado pesadas para que una sola persona las maneje sola.

<div>Mi ME/CFS severo provoca colapsos peligrosos y episodios neurológicos por sobrecarga sensorial y cognitiva. <div>Actualmente usar mi celular me duele muchísimo, pero a veces es la única forma que tengo para comunicarme, pedir ayuda, explicar mis necesidades o intentar organizar apoyo. Incluso mensajes pequeños pueden costarme mucho físicamente.

<div>También estoy en un estado de desnutrición severa potencialmente mortal. Peso aproximadamente 30 kg y dependo de nutrición médica.
