STEAM Education Centres is looking for your help raising funds to replace and upgrade key education technology used in school field-trips and workshops in the Centre and in the community. We hope to offer students from across St. Thomas - Elgin County upgraded versions of the robots and technology they're familiar with, as well as new, emerging technology to expand their learning opportunities.
With your help, STEAM Centre will replace and update technology used in school field-trips and after-school workshops such as our 8 Ozobot coding robots - they have been used by about 12,000 people since we first purchased them! STEAM Centre would also replace 4 Spheros; robots controlled by an app that teaches people how to write code to control and 'drive' the Sphero. We have a few sets of little bits, an award-winning platform of easy-to-use electronic building blocks for creating inventions large and small, that also need to be replaced.
The STEAM Team would also like to add new technology to our field-trip and workshop programming by including LEGO ev3, a small object 3D scanner, an AR/VR set, a portable 3D printer and an Edison robot!
Some background
STEAM Centre workshops teach students how to use modern technology to design and build solutions for the future. Using 3D printers, laser cutters, raw materials, and classroom appropriate technology, we provide hands-on learning activities to inspire and challenge the next generation of innovators, inventors and creators.
STEAM Centre and the students supported by this fund are incredibly grateful for your help! These are learning opportunities that can improve and change someone's life - whether it's the student identifying and creating the change or the person who's life is improved because of it!
We absolutely could not offer this support to our local youth without your generosity!
