This year, Starwood Custom Homes, with the help of its employees, vendors, subcontractors, and homeowners, would like to provide a once-in-a-lifetime holiday experience for 50 kids, across 5 group homes, in Gilbert and Mesa. These kids range from 7-17 years old. Help make this holiday season merry and bright for the young boys and girls in the Brothers and Keepers Group Homes.
There are 14,000 children in the Arizona foster care system. These children have been the victims of abuse and severe neglect. When they are unable to return home safely, they are put into the care of the Arizona Department of Child Safety. This arranged placement can be in emergency shelters, foster homes, or even group homes depending upon the severity of the situation and availability. On average, these children move from their foster homes 4-5 times per year. Each time they are placed into a new environment with new foster parents and sometimes other foster children. They change schools often, which impacts their education and the ability to keep the new friends they have made. They are in a constant world of change and instability. These children have been separated from their families, belongings, and everything they know and love.
Starwood Custom Homes wants to provide a memorable holiday experience to these children that have been placed in a group home setting, as this is often the most difficult. Our CEO, Jake Simonton, has dedicated a tremendous amount of time and energy helping these kids that were not fortunate enough to be placed in a foster home. He is there for them, spending countless hours talking and listening to these kids, building relationships, and being there for them in their time of need. He throws parties for them at his own house, and nothing makes him happier than being able to make a positive impact on their lives...big or small.
