Starting A Cult-Survivor YouTube Channel

Hello there, all! My name's Tyler Scott, hailing from the beautiful (and hot mostly that) state of Nevada, and it's a pleasure to meet you.

So, the idea of going through gofundme for a project is something that's very, very new to me - but I think this project is important, and worth reaching out to try and get well and truly started on it sooner rather than later as, well it's kinda hard to tell when "later" is at the moment.

Times are tough for everyone right now, but I'm hoping that some of you wonderful people maybe agree with and me are willing to give me a hand.

I won't go too far into my own personal story, because I'm not trying to earn money off of tears. My bottom line is this:

I am an ex-member of Jehovah's Witnesses - a cult masquerading as a more mainstream Christian denomination, who's religious practices and requirements often tear lives apart and cause mental and emotional damage that even those out for decades still struggle with. There are about 8 million Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide right at this moment, and that's not counting those of us who left. Those still in are in danger, and those who aren't? Many are in a lot of pain. And the public deserves to know about that.

For evidence of this, all you need to do is look into some of the posts in any Ex-JW group on Facebook or Reddit; or even better watch a movie available on YouTube entitled "Apostasy," which deserves literally all of the views.

And, if this project goes through, you COULD also share or learn more about those experiences - and the cult tactics of Jehovah's Witnesses as a religion - by helping me get a YouTube Channel started with what I think is a pretty damn real purpose.

H.B.C.S stands for Horizon-Bound Chill Soul, or Horizon-Bound if you like, and is the moniker I intend to use for my channel. In fact, though there's no videos posted there yet:

You can click here to see the channel as it starts to take shape !

Or check out @BoundForChill, the associated Twitter account, which I will be posting from starting today!

The focus of my videos will be:

- Long-ish form (I'm aiming for 10 minute episodes currently) identification and analysis of specific cult tactics used by Jehovah's Witnesses in recruitment, conditioning and punishment.

(The purpose is education, warning and solidarity, and I can also promise occasional bad jokes and video clips telling bad jokes to intercut the existential despair.)

- Discussion of a similar length on current/recent JW news regarding lawsuits, protests and general happenings of note.

- Advocacy for people coming out of cult or cult-like backgrounds and the struggles/challenges faced by those individuals.

(I intend to use videos in this vein of content to direct watchers who need it to mental health resources and discuss/encourage their use, and relate personal stories regarding my experiences as a JW and beyond to start discussion within what I'm hoping will become a community.)

- Interviews with Ex-JWs who wish to tell their stories in a safe and open forum.

(This is currently on hold until I am able to secure a sufficient webcam and work through the structure more - but I am highly excited about arranging this in the near future.)

I also hope to, depending of course on the success of the channel, build a community on discord for cult survivors and especially other Ex-JWs.

The channel logos you see were hand-drawn by myself, and the project is a fully personal one - the "team" currently only being myself and a good friend with experience who is assisting (carrying me to victory) with video editing! Which, speaking of, is where your help would be greatly appreciated.

Currently we are working on our first video; an introductory piece with a semi-brief discussion about "othering" - a social manipulation tactic the Organization reeeeally likes using. The title is "No Part Of The World - Possible or Problematic?"

We have a script written, audio recorded and a structure for the footage, music and clips we plan to use - but no video editing software with all of the features that we need and that my editor has sufficient experience in using.

As I mentioned at the start, I will not go too far into my own personal story - but the long tale made short is that, due to the situation currently ongoing surrounding the pandemic, and circumstances that have required me to go on what is currently a very much unpaid leave from work - neither I nor my editor currently have the funds to purchase the needed software, and are not sure when we will.

With that said, this project, alongside other channels and projects like it, is something I truly believe is important. More sunlight on these kinds of religions is needed now, not later - and not just for any one person, but people who are - in a real sense in fact far too many situations - suffering in silence. While this current situation is ongoing, I have a chance to dedicate the time afforded me to jumpstarting this, and I'd like to take it, if I can.

With that said, the product itself is 79.99, so the 90.00 requested would simply go towards purchasing Adobe Premier Elelments 2020 (which is a combo of both Adobe Photoshop and Premier Elements) plus a little over to make sure gofundme's portion is covered.

I'm already set up with a Yeti Blue microphone and a decent desktop for recording/editing, and would purchase the software myself if I had the means, this is the last piece of the puzzle so to speak.

No expectations of support on my part of course, it would just be fantastic if I'm able to get what I need to do this ASAP.

Thank you all, and a pleasure to meet you once again. And one way or the other, I hope to see some of you on one of my videos. Have a great one!

This is the Horizon-Bound Chill Soul reminding you all to stay safe, stay chill, and keep moving forward.
