MORE INFORMATION

The Starland Mural Project will create 8 murals by 8 artists on the east and south walls of the Starland Dairy on 41st and Bull Street. We need your help to fundraise $15,000 to cover our artists time and supplies for a last big hurrah of public art on the walls of the old dairy.

Our team of artists represent the best of Savannah and the low-countries talent and creativity. Your support at just $10 a square foot will help showcase what can happen when we invest in public arts and artists.

All donations over $100 will be recognized on our hand-painted Sponsor Wall on the East Side of the building. For support over $250 please contact us directly at [email redacted]

8 MURAL ARTISTS
Left to Right: Jon Witzky, Juliana Lupacchino, Tyriq Maxwell, Jose Ray, Xavier Hutchins, Amiri Farris & Dana Richardson. Not Picture: Kevin Bongang

Amiri Geuka Farris, 43
Amiri’s works are full of exuberant color and intimate personal experiences. His deep engaging layers invite you to look deeper into the painting, where images and colors dance across the canvas in an energetic display of expression. Amiri’s work has been featured in more than 50 solo exhibitions and juried museum exhibitions internationally.

Tyriq Maxwell, 24
Tyriq Maxwell is an artist from Savannah, Georgia. In his paintings, Maxwell manipulates abstract patterns and compositions observed from geometric architecture to create paintings that explore how form and colors influence one another in exciting ways. He uses real architecture as a catalyst, then abstracts unique perspectives into their basic elements. Maxwell selects color palettes for each image by drawing from personal experience. He is interested in challenging the viewer's expectations in his work by adding contrasting elements such as thin brush strokes and unexpected color arrangements.

José Ray, 39
Coming from the midwest, José arrived in Savannah late 2007 to attend the Savannah College of Art & Design. While studying Painting and Illustration he became involved in the local art and music scene by following interests that helped to round out his education and working style. Since graduating, José chose to stay in Savannah where he now works as a multi-disciplinary artist. You can see his work on public walls, galleries, bookshelves of your local bookstore, and even in the DJ booth downtown!

Jon Witzky, 43
Jon Witzky is an artist living and working in Savannah, Georgia. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio where he spent the majority of his time hanging out in record stores and bars. At some point he decided  he wanted to pursue art-making as a full-time gig so he went back to school. In 2014 he received a BFA from Ohio State University. And in 2018 he received his MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Jon is currently teaching art at Georgia Southern University. He recently curated a pop-up video exhibition at the Expose Art House in Montgomery, Alabama, and had his first solo show in Savannah at Sulfur Studios this summer.

Xavier Hutchins, 30
Savannah based artist, Xavier Hutchins, has been honing his skills in acrylic painting while exploring different techniques for the past several years. With experience in tattooing, photography and graphic design, Xavier has used different elements from each medium to help compose his passions onto canvases, walls, furniture, sneakers and another surface that he can paint on. His personal work revolves around themes of love and uplifting messages to the people of his community.

Kevin Bongang, 32
Artist Kevin Bongang, is a man of many talents and few words—there’s something to be said for letting art speak for itself, after all. Born in Cameroon, West Africa and raised in Savannah, Ga., the current Savannah, Ga dweller majored in illustration at Savannah College of Art and Design, where he was able to hone his signature style awash in bold colors, swirling lines and out-there imagery with a result that’s cohesive and truly unique. These days, he’s collaborated with the likes of Jamba Juice, Coca Cola, Bonnaroo Music Festival, Comcast, Mailchimp and more.

Dana Richardson, 38
Dana Richardson is an artist and native of Sewanee TN.  That she is from a small town in the mountains of Tennessee says more about her than the previous part.  The daughter of two professors with a passion for gardening; she spent her youth building secret houses under cool hydrangea bushes and on branches of oak trees or a good pine.  She studied at the Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing in Aix-en-Provence France which still influences her love of color perception. She received degrees from the Savannah College of Art and Design and was awarded a fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center. She has also studied the landscape at the Art Student's League in NYC, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the New York Studio School of Painting and Drawing.  She has had numerous solo shows and is collected widely. Savannah is her home.

Juliana Lupacchino, 24
Juliana is a native of Savannah, Georgia. She experience much of her childhood in the Downtown Historic District. She eventually graduated from the Savannah College of Art & Design in 2017 with a degree in fibers. During her time at SCAD, she explore both pattern development and material exploration through large scale installation work. Througought her life she has always been passionate about color and how it could be explored. Joy is a key element in all her work. She expresses that though color, shale, and scale.
