Star Amerasu Resilience Fund

My dear friend Star Amerasu is an artist who records indie electronic music under the moniker Ah-Mer-Ah-Su. Star is an incredible talent and a light to the people in her life, but as a Black trans woman in the USA, she has had to surmount undue struggles with mental health, houselessness, and the daily effects of racism and transphobia.
It's also no secret that musicians and live performers are suffering disproportionately from the COVID-19 pandemic. Without live venues, Star has seen the opportunity to earn a living directly from her music get drastically reduced. She also had to leave her most recent job due to health concerns, so funds are running low.
While her expenses are covered until the end of the year, the upcoming year is uncertain, especially with no end to the pandemic in sight. So, with Star's blessing and participation, I've set up this GoFundMe to ensure that Star has the support she needs and deserves.
The funds raised here will go towards what we're calling a resilience fund to build Star up. They'll ensure that she doesn't have to worry about how she will house and feed herself, how she will take care of her needs, or how she will have the resources to produce more music.
In addition to being a great musician, Star is a captivating live presence, a true performer, and in addition to allowing her to create new music, this fund will help get her in a position to get right back into providing that live experience as soon as it is safe to do so.
Beyond the call to be an artist, Star sees her role as that of a healer. Through her art, music, and her spirit, she's been able to provide healing to others in her community, as well as embark on her own journey of self-healing. By not having to worry where her next rent check or meal will come from, she'll be able to focus on the work that moves her spirit.
We know the precarity that Black trans women face in this country, and how often we hear the names and stories of these women after something terrible has happened, so my goal with this fund is to ensure that Star not merely survives, but that she thrives and gets to live in the safety and comfort she deserves. I want her celebrated and affirmed in the here and now.
