We as friends of Stanton & Vanessa Schmidt are setting up this account on Stanton’s behalf.
Stanton has experienced significant lower back pain since 2003. MRI scans showed disc degeneration at L4/L5 and L5/S1. The disc degeneration has caused compressed nerves, resulting in leg pain and numbness. Multiple rounds of cortisone shots, physical therapy, facet joint injections, and chiropractic adjustments have provided little, to no relief. After consulting with Dr. Bierstedt in Germany, Stanton and his wife Vanessa decided to schedule a surgery for disc replacement using artificial disc. This particular surgery is not yet available in the United States.
Stanton & Vanessa traveled to Germany on September 15, and Dr. Bierstedt performed the surgery on September 18. Stanton is currently recovering and going through therapy in Germany. This surgery has a very high success rate, and Stanton has already noticed improvement!
Although he has health coverage, this particular surgery is not yet covered by most health plans. The cost of this surgery is $40,000, not including travel expenses.
