Comfort and Compassion for Susan

Donation protected
Many of you already know my mother, Susan, and the struggle she has been going through over the last two years. For those that don't...

The Backstory
Mom was diagnosed with stage 4, non-small cell lung cancer in March of 2016. A little over a year later, we were informed that the cancer had spread to her brain in the form of over a dozen small to medium sized tumors. The tumors have caused Susan pain, confusion, and a frustrating in-and-out loss of language that has left her struggling to communicate her needs or thoughts.

While it has been heart-breaking to watch her through multiple rounds of radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and increasingly drastic and draining symptoms, Susan has shown a courage that has floored us all.

Mom has been battling this aggressive disease with courage and hope for almost two years now.

Despite our best efforts, our mother now requires a level of home care that our family is unable to provide alone. Our father, Clark, has been caring of our mom with the support of us kids up until this point, but with continued health complications and the growing need for constant and intensive attention, her care has become too much for our small clan to handle on our own.

The Costs

Our family no longer has the resources to give Mom the proper care she needs and has placed us in a very urgent and desperate situation trying to help her.

Housing Aid - $3,500
• Due to changing needs, Mom is unable to continue staying under our roofs. We are actively searching for housing solutions that will fit Clark and Susan's needs, but are asking for $3,500 to cover one month's rent, deposit, additional fees, and moving expenses based on Oregon state averages.

As we come to better understand what will be needed, we will update this section.

Nursing Care - $150/day x 45 days = $6,750
• Mom is currently awaiting approval from DHS for in-home care, however we are being told that this process is likely to take between 30 and 45 days.

We are asking for $150 per day (the average cost of a day of in-home care according to DHS statistics) for a period of 30 days to help provide care until funding becomes available.

Fees - 2.9% of each donation, +30¢ = $600
We are asking for $600 to cover the processing fees incurred by the Gofundme platform. We are estimating the average donation size at $10 for this estimate.

How You Can Help

All funds contributed will directly go to Susan's care and comfort in the fight against this ugly disease.

We understand times are tough for everyone and it would mean a great deal to our family to receive any contribution you can spare.

If you are unable to support Mom's cancer fight in the form of cash donations, please consider sharing our campaign with your friends and followers to get out the word about Mom's situation.

If you would like to spread the word on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, we encourage you to use the hashtag #standwithsusan

Food donations are also welcome, and we encourage you to reach out to our family for more information on that.

Susan would also love to get words of hope and encouragement to lift her spirits.
