Our friend Sasha needs help! In January of 2013 she was diagnosed with ESRD – End Stage Renal Disease. She immediately was put on dialysis and her life changed in a flash, but she managed to accept her fate with determination and hope. She knew she wanted to get busy livin’ and not dyin’! As she says, “Out of the death of my kidneys came a renewed life in my person.” She maintains a positive demeanor and always greets us with the infectious smile we’ve come to expect and love from her.
She immediately knew she had to use her warm and communicative personality to help others in the same boat, so she started talking to groups about dialysis and how you can still get the most of life while going through it. She candidly discusses her illness with anyone because she wants to inform, inspire and learn. She wants to help others in the same boat stay positive and access helpful resources. Having always made volunteering a part of her life, it’s even more significant.
Now she’s waiting to get a transplant. But transplants aren’t cheap! Though some of it will be covered, there are still numerous expenses that aren’t covered, particularly with recent medical cuts. So, we want to help raise funds for her surgery. She wants to continue mentoring other kidney patients and spreading the word about kidney disease and we want to help her do that. We’re having a Comedy Benefit, “Stand Up For Sasha” on August 16, 2014 to help raise funds but for those not in LA or who can’t attend, please give a few bucks to help our cause. If you can pay $4 for a cup of coffee, you can throw a couple of bucks our way! Every dollar counts and your supports matters.
