<div><strong>Parker Patton was born at 34 weeks of age along with his identical twin brother, Colt.</strong> Parker was a happy and calm baby until around day 6 of his life. On that day, he started to become sick and began throwing up stomach bile while still in the hospital. He was eventually transferred to another hospital where an immediate surgery was performed. Parker was diagnosed with a malrotation with a volvulus. Basically, his intestines twisted and kinked, cutting off the blood supply. The surgeon untwisted his intestines and told us that we would have to wait to see how much of his bowel had survived. The next day, Parker became very sick and septic. They had to do another surgery on him for fear that more of his bowel had died off than expected. To our worst fear, his entire small bowel and half of his large intestine had died. The surgeon cut out what bowel had died and told us that Parker, down the road, might be able to receive a transplant at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Parker then lived the next year and a half of his life hooked to a permanent IV that provided him his nutrition. This was called TPN. However, TPN is hard on the liver, and Parker eventually developed liver disease from this.

<div><strong>Parker could wait no longer due to his liver failing and got approved to be put on the transplant list.</strong> In July of 2022, we received the phone call that Parker had a match. We rushed him to the hospital to undergo the long and tough surgery. Parker received a multi-organ transplant of a small bowel, liver, and pancreas. The recovery for that was a couple of months in the hospital, both inpatient and outpatient. In addition, Parker has been in and out of the hospital several times since then due to complications. Parker has had a difficult life full of many challenges and has many tough experiences yet to come. He will be on lifelong medications, many therapies, and eventually, down the road, may need an additional transplant. In addition, my wife was unable to return to work due to needing to stay home to help with Parker's constant care and needs. This makes money very tight. Over the past 5 years, we have had an immense amount of medical debt and we currently have over $30k that is past due.
