 On January 17, 2026, I was involved in a major motorcycle accident while commuting to work. Though I was wearing a helmet, motorcycle jacket, and gloves, I suffered facial fractures, a traumatic brain injury (TBI), and a fractured pelvis.
</div>

 I underwent surgery to repair my pelvis and stitch my face up. The facial fractures were what they call stable, so they just stitched my face up and let those heal on their own. I spent 2 days in the intensive care unit and 5 days on the trauma care ward. They transferred me to Banner Physical Rehab, where I spent roughly 14 days learning to walk on one leg with a walker and to navigate steps with a cane so that I could get into the house we rent in Mesa, AZ.

 From there, I got to go home and started my long journey to recovery. I was in a wheelchair, then I graduated to a walker, then I graduated to a four-point cane. Now I walk, but cautiously; I just have to be careful. Physically, I am healing. The surgeon who operated on my pelvis said in a year I should be 100% healed, though there will always be physical limitations. I walk without a cane, and though I have pain, it is managed with over-the-counter meds.

 <strong>However, due to my injuries and my TBI, I haven’t been allowed to return to work.</strong> In truth, my energy level and ability to focus are so low right now. I could not currently work more than a few hours a week anyhow. I have many brain shut-off moments throughout the day.

 The best way to describe what happens to me from the TBI, and why it is so difficult to manage, is as follows. You know that feeling just before you fall into a good sleep. You're not quite awake, your brain is drifting from random thought to random thought. Then you pleasantly fall into the blackness of sleep and perhaps begin a dream.

 When you wake the next day, you're never sure what was drifting off and what was a dream. You just know you were no longer in control of your thoughts.
</div>

 Well, when I'm going to sleep, that's a good thing. The problem is, since my TBI, I have moments like that throughout the day at seemingly random times. Sometimes just a moment, sometimes a few minutes, and sometimes it lasts hours, just on the edge of losing the ability to think. Unable to focus on anything.

 Welcome to my life after a TBI…

 We have been blessed with support from various charities and donations, so we didn’t lose our home, and we have food to eat. I did have to liquidate my small retirement accounts (less than 4,000), but that is what it is.
</div>
<div>
 Before you say try these organizations, we did. DES, we did; they said donations and charity are considered income. We were denied. Tried Mesa CAN; same for rent assistance. Donations and charities are considered income, so they cannot help us, but maybe we can get utilities assistance. We called some churches; either we do not live within the churches' boundaries, or they do not have any funds at this time.

 <strong>However, until my disability claim is processed by SSA, we are at the mercy of charity to not become homeless.</strong> We do not like asking at all. For that reason, we are hoping and praying you wonderful people will continue to donate to my GoFundMe so that I can support my family.
