Stand with Troy: A Fight for Resilience
Donation protected
Meet my father, Troy Duhaney—a man whose life has been a testament to resilience and hope, despite facing unimaginable challenges. In 2009, his world was forever altered when syringomyelia left him paraplegic. From that moment, his wheelchair became both a symbol of independence and a constant reminder of the obstacles he faced. My whole life, he has been my rock and, despite his disability, he has always been very independent and has always looked out for me and my brother.
This past December, a routine bus ride turned into a tragic incident. He was not properly secured and fell, fracturing his femur, when the bus made a hard stop. The aftermath has been devastating. He has been in and out of hospitals and skilled nursing facilities due to complications and health setbacks. Despite these setbacks, my father persisted, refusing to let these hardships define him. As of a few weeks ago, he was discharged to finally go home after almost 5 months in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. Although he is home, he is reliant on 24-hr care while he heals from a severe pressure wound he developed during his lengthy hospitalizations. Until his wounds heal, he is bedbound, and must be physically adjusted and repositioned every 2 hours.
Despite his happiness at finally being home, life dealt him another blow as social security, unable to contact him during his lengthy hospitalization, inexplicably stripped away his benefits. His disability benefits were his only source of income and the main way he was able to pay rent and live independently. Now, more than ever, he needs a safe place to heal. However, he is two months behind on rent and his apartment complex has advised they are starting the eviction process. Social Security has informed us that it may take 3-4 months to reinstate his benefits.
This is why I'm reaching out to you. I'm asking for your compassion and support to ensure my father has a home—a sanctuary where he can regain his strength and continue his journey of resilience.
My father's story is not just about struggle; it's about the human spirit's ability to endure and overcome. Your donation to our GoFundMe campaign can make a profound difference. Imagine the impact of providing him with a roof over his head, a comfortable bed, and the hope for a brighter future.
