Shannon McCarthy is facing cancer once again. She bravely battled ovarian cancer in the beginning 2016. She underwent a hysterectomy and chemotherapy. Since then she has been living life to the fullest with the people and animals she cares the about most.
Shannon is no stranger to how cruel cancer can be. Her mother died from ovarian cancer when she was only 51. On Thursday, Novemeber 30th, Shannon received news that no one wants to hear. Her CT scan revealed many masses and affected lymph nodes. Surgery is not possible this time. She will need chemo once again and possibly long term daily chemo.
Medical bills are piling up and are expensive. Insurance isn't covering everything. She has already incurred thousands of dollars in expenses.
Chemo causes low energy and feeling terrible therefore working at a job she loves as a veterinary technician is not possible as her body is fiercely fighting back against her cancer. She worked through chemo the first time but cannot this time. She will have lost wages during this struggle.
Lastly, Shannon adores her rescue horses, Franklin and Hallie. Basic upgrades to their shelter will make daily care less strenuous especially during the Maine winter when sub-zero temperatures make lugging water buckets, shoveling manure, or mending fences physically demanding.
