DongHwan Lee and JaeYoung Nam faced excommunication for offering a blessing at a queer festivals—an act of love that has put them and five other pastors in jeopardy. Each church trial could cost between $5,000 and $6,000, creating a significant financial burden for these advocates for inclusion.

These leaders are boldly advocating for the rights and dignity of marginalized individuals, despite the immense challenges they face.

<div>In 2019, Rev. Lee blessed LGBTQ+ individuals at a festival, resulting in a historic two-year suspension—the first of its kind in South Korea. Undeterred, he continues to champion sexual minorities, believing that Christ’s love is for everyone. In 2024, nine other Korean Methodist pastors followed his lead, blessing LGBTQ+ individuals at a festival, with 137 pastors officially supporting their journey.

<div>Rev. Jae Young Nam has recently been excommunicated by the Korean Methodist Church (KMC) and, along with five other pastors, is now facing more legal trials and related fees.
