Hi everyone,

My name is Beka, and I’m asking for help during an uncertain and emotional time. My partner of two years, Myrka, is a DACA recipient and with the recent potential changes to DACA in Texas and rising tensions around immigration policies, we are facing a difficult and costly road ahead.

First I have to tell you how wonderful Myrka is. She so caring, so dedicated in everything she does and loves bigger than anyone I know. On top of working full time and sharing in the load of taking care of our family, she is also a full time student working on her Bachelor’s in Communication with the intention of becoming a Speech Pathologist with a specialization in speech apraxia, a topic very close to her heart. Everything she decides to do she sets her whole heart and mind to and it’s incredible to see in action every day. She is the heart of all her loved ones, and absolutely the heart of our family and home.

After our upcoming marriage, we will need to quickly begin the process of Myrka obtaining her permanent residency, which is an expensive and long process. As a lesbian couple, we also have to be on top of threats to LGBTQ+ marriage that would suddenly remove our ability to use our right as a married couple to obtain Myrka’s PR through marriage like every other couple has the right to do.

I’m coming to you to ask for your help in covering the immigration attorney fees, filing costs, and document renewals necessary to protect Myrka’s legal status and the stability of our family. Everyone who knows Myrka knows how special and hardworking she is; she is the glue that holds our home and family together. I can’t put into words how heartbreaking it is to think of our family being separated.
