Stand with Mandi in Her Health Journey

My dear friends & for those of you who don’t know me, my name is Cheri (Barber) Weber.

You may remember me as the mother of Amanda “Mandi” Sortman. I started a GofundMe in 2022 when Mandi was going through her 3rd brain/shunt surgery. It was her 3rd brain surgery in 4 years. These few years have been very emotionally, financially, and very physically draining for Mandi. They have very much taken a toll on her health.

I’m starting this new page now as Mandi is going through another significant hardship due to not being able to work (and I am not sure where else to turn to). After her last surgery December of 2022, Mandi returned to work in April 2023. Due to the stress of her job, coupled with her memory issues, difficulties with word-finding, problem solving skills, more serious regular seizures, vision loss, and many other medical issues, her medical providers placed her on disability. They also recommended that she apply for Social Security Disability. Mandi’s court date for the Social Security hearing was just scheduled, but it is not until the very end of October. All of this stress has added to her continuing chronic debilitating headaches & seizures. Her short-term disability through her employer has run out and she just received the news that her long-term disability was denied due to a “pre-existing disability clause” in the company policy. There is nothing she can do to fight it.

All of this leaves them in desperate need of financial help to get through the next 4 months as their savings has been long gone and additionally, I also ask that you pray for Mandi, her health, her husband, and our family as we continue through this journey with her. They are also trying to find affordable health insurance as Brian’s work Insurance is a high-deductible insurance plan.

Mandi also has several high cost medications that she is now paying out of pocket for. I know times are tough right now for everyone but if you are able to donate anything, it would take the pressure off of this momma & Mandi’s mental/physical health.
