As most of you know, our girl Ginger is currently working hard to kick cancer's ass and could use our support. I first met Ginger on the 9th floor of East Tower at Ithaca College in 1992 (gulp!), and we have been close friends through all of life's ups and downs since. Together with my fellow IC alums Sarah Hogan-Crowley and Marybeth Gore, we've convinced Ginger to go ahead with this GoFundMe. If you know her even a little bit, our amazing friend is fiercely independent and hates asking for help. That said, out-of-pocket medical expenses (thanks in large part to her medical insurance denying claims) are quickly mounting and depleting her savings. Any support you could give to help alleviate the financial stress would be appreciated.
Ginger was diagnosed with breast cancer in late August. She had surgery in mid-October and was expected to be doing radiation only and be done with treatment before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, post-surgery, that plan was quickly adjusted, and she began chemotherapy treatments on November 14th. The current plan includes chemotherapy followed by radiation and will last at least 4 months.
We realize that a primary way that GoFundMe usually works is by sharing on social media, but Ginger has requested that you do not share this on social media, and we ask that you respect her wishes. It is why we have shared it with you via email. At this time, she has chosen to keep the group of people aware of her diagnosis relatively small. I consider myself blessed to be part of her trusted inner circle and hope you do as well.
It's often hard to know how to help when someone you love is battling cancer. This is one way we can help Ginger and help take away one current stress and worry.
Thanks,
Ricque Porter
