Instead, a shadow looms over what should be one of the happiest times of her life. As Evelin recovers from childbirth and holds her newborn, the threat of deportation hangs over her entire family. They are currently awaiting a home visit and an upcoming in-person court appointment that could determine whether this family stays together or is immediately torn apart. Evelin’s greatest fear is being forcibly separated from her children. It is a fear that overwhelms her daily. She cries at the thought of being taken away from her babies, of missing first steps, first words, and the simple, irreplaceable moments that make a family whole. No mother should have to face the possibility of losing her children. Please consider donating if you are able. Thank you for standing with Evelin and her children during this incredibly fragile time.  - - - - - On September 23, Evelin traveled to a courthouse in Baltimore for a routine immigration hearing. Her fiance, Locadio, received a phone call shortly after that she had been detained and would be deported the following day. Evelin is 6-months pregnant and the family also has a 2-year old son and a 9 year-old son. Evelin was transferred to a detention center in Chantilly, Virginia where she was held for 9 days. While Evelin was detained, Locadio was unable to find reliable childcare, so he assumed the role of caregiver and unfortunately lost his full-time employment. Their 9-year old son also missed school while Evelin was detained due to the ongoing grief and chaos. To add to the stressful environment, the family was in the process of moving apartments when Evelin was detained. Locadio handled the move solo, all while caring for their children.

Remarkably, Evelin was released in early October and has been reunited with her family, but the fight for the family to remain together is not over. Due to her immigration status, Evelin must travel to Baltimore regularly for immigration court proceedings - the very location where she was first taken and detained. The whole family remains grief-stricken from the detainment and are deeply concerned she could be taken again.

The family is doing what they can to remain hopeful. Having lost his employment, Locadio is now picking up ad hoc work when possible. En cambio, una sombra se cierne sobre lo que debería ser uno de los momentos más felices de su vida. Mientras Evelin se recupera del parto y sostiene a su recién nacido, la amenaza de deportación pende sobre toda su familia. Actualmente están esperando una visita al hogar y una próxima cita en persona en la corte que podría determinar si esta familia permanece unida o si es desgarrada de inmediato. El mayor temor de Evelin es ser separada por la fuerza de sus hijos. Es un miedo que la abruma diariamente.  El 23 de septiembre, Evelin viajó a un juzgado en Baltimore para una audiencia rutinaria de inmigración. Su prometido, Locadio, recibió una llamada telefónica poco después informándole de su detención y sería deportada al día siguiente. Evelin tiene seis meses de embarazo y la familia también tiene un hijo de dos años y otro de nueve. Evelin fue trasladada a un centro de detención en Chantilly, Virginia, donde permaneció nueve días. Mientras Evelin estuvo detenida, Locadio no pudo encontrar una niñera confiable, por lo que asumió el rol de cuidador y, lamentablemente, perdió su empleo de tiempo completo.
