These efforts appear to be orchestrated by individuals within the current Sheriff’s Office and supported by the District Attorney’s Office—institutions closely tied together by longstanding political interests. This pattern of retaliation has a history in the county, where other candidates have been pressured or forced to withdraw from the race under similar circumstances.
