The Fight:
Antwan “Tron” was diagnosed with a very aggressive and rare form of stage 4 cancer early last year (2016) - duodenal adenocarcinoma. Tron has been in a fierce battle since then, with many intervals of chemo and radiation and many complications along the way. The fight has left him with several EXTENDED stays in hospitals and too many surgeries and ER visits to begin to recount. Anyone who knows Tron knows that he is a warrior though and even through it all he has remained determined to continue life as usual. He has even insisted on continuing to work when he could barely carry on so as to cause as little disruption for his family as possible. Tron has always been the one to pitch in and do for others and now we are calling on his tribe as he needs us now more than ever.
Unfortunately the tumors and cancer are persistent. This particular cancer is not only rare but highly aggressive, unresponsive and difficult to treat which has left them with fewer and fewer treatment options. As a result, the latter part of 2017 has faced the family with many trips to Atlanta (for a week at a time) for additional rounds of chemo, scans and experimental treatments (every 2-3 weeks on average). Most recently, Tron is back in the hospital facing life threating obstacles and complications that doctors are working tirelessly to help him continue his fight.
About the Family:
Tron and his wife, Cynthia, live in Charlotte, NC and have 3 children: Chelsey, Antwan II, and Chance. Tron has been an entrepreneur since graduating from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a proud small business owner. Tron has a powerful network of friends and family here in North Carolina having been a Charlottean for life and a graduate of Myers Park High school. His wife, Cynthia has spent her career devoted to helping others in the field of Social Work after her service in the United States Navy. Tron is also an inaugural member of the Be There Dad chapter called the “Highlands Men” at his 10 year old daughter’s elementary school in Charlotte. Again, even through all the treatments and his weakened state, Tron does not miss a chance to participate in car rider line, lunch duty and the many service projects the Highlands Men do around the school. It’s amazing to witness Tron out there helping the community and so focused on others while he is in the fight for his life. He is a true inspiration, always pressing on, ALWAYS thinking of others, continually encouraging those around him and never losing faith. If you see Tron on a given day he will ALWAYS ask how YOU are doing and what is going on with YOU before you can attempt to check in on him.
Cancer = Exponential Expenses:
We know the timing financially is not ideal given the holiday season but what better time to shower this family with love and support to show Tron and his beautiful family that we are here standing strong with them. No amount is too small! All funds raised will be used ONLY to chip away at the massive financial burden cancer and the associated treatments and trials have brought to this family.
