My name is Ambre Madlock. I am a single mother of an 11-year-old son who is full of life and energy; he constantly has me on the go. Who would have known one yearly woman's exam would change my life? All of my family, friends, and extended network, as some of you may know and for others that may not know, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 renal failure in October of 2020. During that month of October, I was admitted to St. David North Austin Medical Center. After spending several weeks in the ICU, it was determined that neither of my kidneys were working and that they would never again regain function. Since then, I have been on dialysis three times a week to maintain a stable condition. During all of this time, I have also done multiple medical procedures, scans/testing, and doctor's appointments to be able to qualify for the kidney transplant list. Thankfully, and with continued faith, I was approved and placed on the list for a kidney transplant at several facilities.
As I sit, as patiently as I can, and wait for that special phone call, I also have the ability to reach out and find a living donor. This donor can also go through the transplant approval process and donate one of their kidneys to me, which can be a quicker process than waiting on the list.
Although life has tested me and my family with this health challenge, we remain positive and continue to have faith that God will lead the way and guide us to the other side. With that being said, we cannot do this alone. After further research, and as information is given to us as we go step by step to navigate this transplant process, we anticipate costs and expenses that insurance will not cover. Thus, we need not be prideful and admit that whether we get a transplant through the list or with a living donor, we will need assistance on either end to get by during my recovery downtime or my living donor's downtime.
We know times have been tough on everyone, and that everyone has some form of need. Nonetheless, my family and I humbly ask for any donation your heart can spare; big or small does not matter. Any donation given will go a long way in helping my family and me stay financially stable, as well as my possible living donor. This will allow the donor and me to instead focus on the procedure and medical recovery aspect of the transplant with the hopes to have the best possible outcome.
