Dylan is an 11yr old boy who loves to be with his friends and family. Dylan absolutely loves his sport most of all the Western Bulldogs in the AFL, and Melbourne Victory soccer club, but unfortunelty Dylan can't participate in these sports like his friends as Dylan has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
DMD is a progressive muscle wasting disease causing extreme weakness. Sadly over time Dylan will lose the ability to walk (between 8-12yrs of age) and he will be confined to an electric wheelchair. DMD affects all the muscles in the body which means his heart and lungs are also affected. DMD is 100% fatal there is NO CURE, life expectancy is mid to late 20's.
Dylan will require regular physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, remedial massage and occupational therapy, but in the long term Dylan will require lots of medical equipment for his declining health, this will be very costly.
Things like a CPAP machine, ventilator, cough assist machine, electric hospital bed, hoist, are just some of the things he will need. To transport Dylan we will need a Wheelchair lift conversion on our vehicle so he can use his electric Wheelchair.
We have set up this GoFund me page to help raise some much needed funds to help our family. As Dylan's medical needs increase I am unable to work leaving us as a family with only 1 income, this allows me to care for Dylan full time and take him to his countless Doctor's appointments and therapy sessions.
