Stand By Salil

Donation protected
On July 23, 2017, my friend Sudeshna , called her husband Salil, who was away on business, to wish him good morning and to touch base before each went their own way.

When Salil picked up the phone, she was shocked to hear his speech horribly slurred.  Pretty soon he abruptly dropped the connection.  Extremely concerned, Sudeshna called a close friend in Guwahati, India, (where Salil was travelling on business) and asked him to check on Salil.  He called her saying that Salil was found lying on the hotel room floor and has been taken to a reputed hospital (Nemcare) and is in ICU.

Sudeshna took the first flight out of Kolkata, India, where they live and flew out to Guwahati, with her daughter.  Salil was in  very critical condition and they learned that he had suffered a massive stroke!  The good doctors of Nemcare were able to stabilize Salil but it was soon learned that 80% of his right brain was damaged which has led to near-paralysis of the left side of his body.

On July 31, 2017, Salil has been transported from Guwahati to the Institute of Neuroscience in Kolkata.  The plane ride and the journey to this new hospital was tough for Salil but he was an absolute trooper.

Salil's left limbs are unable to help him in any way right now.  He does have sensation in them though, which is a blessing.  Salil can't get up without help because of the paralysis in his left side and he definitely cannot walk.  The damage to his brain has been extensive.  After, he's released from the Institute of Neuroscience, his treatment will continue at home.  He will need two nurses, a physiotherapist and a male helper to be employed full time at home.

The reason I'm launching this campaign on behalf of my friends Salil and Sudeshna is because they don't have any medical insurance nor liquid cash to invest in Salil's treatment.  A couple of years ago, they invested substantial capital in their nascent business venture, that hasn't quite provided the return they had expected.  Besides, my friend Sudeshna, my namesake, has a similar life story.  We both found love after travelling some rough life paths, only in our second marriages.  We both found our best friends (our husbands) at a mature age.  I want her to have her best friend for a long time with her, for them to grow old together, for them to see the success of their business and achieve all that they desire.

I plan on collecting the money raised and sending it periodically to Sudeshna in Kolkata, India.

I hope you will donate to help Salil with his medical expenses.  I hope you will stand by Salil.
