Standby Joey to fight his cancer
In September 2015 our family’s world was turned upside down when our son/brother was diagnosed with Adrenal Cancer, only 33 years old Joe Keaney Jnr., father of two beautiful little girls and amazing fiancé.
October 2015, The Adrenal gland and surrounding areas were successfully removed by surgery a month after diagnoses. After tests and scans etc., he was given the all clear and there was no need for any after treatment such as radium or chemotherapy they said, this was such a great relief.
Seven months later, back for tests. The results of the test weren’t what he expected, cancer known as Metastatic Phaeochromocytoma was now after spreading to other parts of the body after been given the all clear only 7 months previous, this came as a shock.
Talks between doctors are still ongoing, sending him abroad for trials has not been ruled out but this could take years before it might actually be available for him.
Now 2018
2 ½ years later. No trials available. Tumours have spread to various parts of the body. Joey was advised by his doctor to start Chemotherapy for 6 months as he has had no treatment so far, but this may not have any effect, they said, for pain relive strong medication and if need be Radiation.
Chemotherapy and radiation can have a devastating effect on a person's body and can cause lots of damage to healthy tissue and organs as well as targeting cancer cells. There is no certainty that it will work and it would be blindly treating cancer and hoping for the best.
With no known cure in Ireland, we have looked at alternative medication abroad that could help Joey.
This alternative treatment would be tailored specifically to his condition; it could help stop the growth of the tumours and also help to reduce the pain without any side effects and to prolong his life.
This appeal is to raise funds for Joey to travel abroad.
The cost of the treatment, his travel and living abroad for a couple of months at a time. This has been estimated to cost anywhere between 10,000 – 12,000 euro A hefty price, but with no cure or
alternative treatment in Ireland, we would like to ask for your help and support in trying everything possible for him.
