Stand by Bianca: Family Needs Your Support

Life can change in the blink of an eye. For my sister, Bianca, that moment came earlier this year when she was diagnosed with Craniopharyngioma—a rare, benign brain tumor that develops near the base of the brain, specifically around the pituitary gland and hypothalamus.

Craniopharyngiomas can cause severe challenges because of their location, which impacts essential brain functions. For Bianca, the tumor has stretched and damaged the part of her brain that controls memory formation and storage, leaving her struggling with memory loss. It has also affected her hypothalamus, which plays a critical role in regulating behaviors, emotions, and vital bodily functions like hunger, sleep, and hormone balance.

On July 1st, Bianca underwent surgery to remove most of the tumor. While the surgery was successful in part, this is far from the end of her journey. The remaining tumor requires targeted chemotherapy treatments, and she will need ongoing therapy to help manage the lasting effects. Bianca is currently unable to work.

Before this diagnosis, Bianca was a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)—a role she loved because she could care for others, often helping those in need even when she had little herself. She worked tirelessly to build a home for her kids and always put others first, no matter her circumstances. She’s a mother of four incredible kids: her two sons, almost 5 and 16, who live with her, and two daughters, almost 15 and 18, who live with their dads, much farther away than she wishes. Not being able to see her girls right now has been one of the hardest emotional weights to carry during this journey.

Today, Bianca lives in a household with her two sons, our brother and sister-in-laws, and their two daughters. As a family, we’ve come together to support her, juggling bills, mortgage payments, lot rent, electricity, and daily expenses. But Bianca’s SSI disability application is still pending, and it could take up to a year to be approved. Financially, we’ve done everything we can, but we can no longer carry this burden alone.

This is where we humbly ask for your help. If you know Bianca, you know she is selfless, resilient, and kind-hearted. Even when she had little, she gave so much. Now, she needs us. Whether it’s a small donation, a share, or a prayer, every act of kindness means the world as we fight to keep her home, provide for her children, and support her recovery.

Being her sister and caregiver, this is incredibly hard to write. Asking for financial help feels heavy, as our mother raised us to be strong and independent women. But today, we lay that pride aside for Bianca and her kids.
