<div>Mijn naam is Melissa (28), ik woon samen met mijn man Dion (32), onze kindjes Riv (3) en Luca (1) en onze hond Baloe.

<div>Op 9 juli 2025 kreeg ik de diagnose Multiple Sclerose (MS). Sindsdien staat mijn wereld volledig op zijn kop. MS is een chronische ziekte waarbij mijn eigen afweersysteem mijn zenuwstelsel aanvalt. Hierdoor ontstaan klachten die telkens terugkomen, en die blijvend kunnen worden zodra de zenuwen te beschadigd raken.

<div>In mijn dagelijks leven heb ik nu al te maken met:

<div>	•	een doof gevoel in verschillende delen van mijn lichaam
</div>
<div>	•	tremoren (trillen) in mijn handen
</div>
<div>	•	extreme vermoeidheid die nooit echt weggaat
</div>
<div>	•	periodes van duizeligheid en wazig zien
</div>
<div>	•	zware armen en benen, alsof ik met lood rondloop
</div>
<div>	•	zenuwpijn in mijn handen, polsen &amp; voeten

<div>Deze klachten komen en gaan, maar iedere keer laten ze een beetje meer schade achter. Het vooruitzicht dat dit zich verder kan ontwikkelen en blijvend wordt, is beangstigend – vooral omdat ik niets liever wil dan er voor mijn kinderen zijn.

<div> Een kans in Mexico: HSCT
</div>

</div>
<div>Er bestaat een behandeling die mijn MS mogelijk kan stopzetten: HSCT (Hematopoëtische Stamceltransplantatie).
</div>

</div>
<div>HSCT werkt door mijn immuunsysteem volledig te “resetten” met chemotherapie. Daarna worden mijn eigen stamcellen teruggeplaatst, zodat mijn lichaam een nieuw, gezond immuunsysteem kan opbouwen dat mijn zenuwstelsel niet meer aanvalt. Voor veel mensen met MS betekent dit dat de ziekte tot stilstand komt en verdere achteruitgang kan worden voorkomen.

<div>In Nederland wordt HSCT alleen in zeer uitzonderlijke gevallen aangeboden, omdat er strenge regels en protocollen gelden en de behandeling nog als “onvoldoende bewezen” wordt gezien. In landen zoals Mexico wordt HSCT al veel vaker toegepast, met goede resultaten en ruime ervaring.

<div>De kosten voor deze behandeling in Mexico bedragen echter €62.000 – een bedrag dat wij als gezin nooit zelf kunnen opbrengen.

<div>These symptoms come and go, but each time they leave behind a little more damage. The thought that this may continue to progress and become permanent is frightening—especially because more than anything, I want to be there for my children.

<div> A Chance in Mexico: HSCT
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>There is a treatment that could possibly stop my MS: HSCT (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>HSCT works by completely “resetting” my immune system with chemotherapy. After that, my own stem cells are reintroduced so my body can build a new, healthy immune system that no longer attacks my nervous system. For many people with MS, this means the disease comes to a halt and further progression can be prevented.
</div>

</div>
<div>In the Netherlands, HSCT is only offered in very rare cases due to strict rules and protocols, and because the treatment is still considered “insufficiently proven.” But in countries like Mexico, HSCT is already performed much more frequently, with good results and extensive experience.
</div>

<div>However, the cost of this treatment in Mexico is €62,000 – an amount our family can never cover on our own.
