Stacy Colman and Family

Friends, family, coworkers, & good Samaritans,

Simply put, this is the most tragic scenario I’ve ever heard of.

My brother-in-law’s sister recently sought treatment for dizziness/vertigo and was evaluated at Avon Hospital. The clinicians discovered brain inflammation and transferred her to Cleveland Clinic main campus.

After undergoing a myriad of tests over the course of a week, Stacy was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a neurodegenerative disorder that leads to dementia and is ultimately fatal. The progression of the disease happens rapidly, and most patients die within mere months of onset.

CJD is incredibly rare with <1,000 cases worldwide and <300 cases in the US diagnosed each year. Little is known about the exact cause and how a person becomes exposed.

Stacy is only 38 years old. She is married to Chad, her high school sweetheart, and has two beautiful girls, Charlotte (11) and Elise (7). The girls are too young to grasp the gravity of the situation and Chad is doing his best to be strong for his children and for his wife, who is losing cognitive capabilities by the day.

We are humbly asking for help in two ways:
1. Please keep Stacy and her family in your prayers. Her family and friends are putting their faith each day in the grace of God, in the sanctity of prayer, and in the power of goodwill.

2. Consider a monetary pledge to help with expenses The Colman Family will incur over the next several months (healthcare costs, groceries, time away from work, necessary distractions for the girls, etc.).

Stacy went to an appointment for a relatively common symptom and left with heartbreak and with the lives of her loved ones forever changed.

Please consider contributing in any way possible.

All of our love and gratitude,
The Murnan’s and The Colman’s
