Saturday December 17th a tragedy happened, twenty five year old Staci Myers of Des Moines IA, had a vein rupture in her brain causing her to have a stroke. Staci was at Aldis in the parking lot with her three year old daughter, they never made it into the grocery store. After two hours of sitting in the cold car Staci was able to make a call to me, her husband, but was unable to speak because of the stroke. When she called all I heard was her making moaning sounds, I knew something was wrong so I grabbed my camera and started recording. I yelled for my wife to answer me but she was unable, then I heard hope in the background it was my little hero Zyla. I said “Zyla pick up mommy’s phone sweetie” She was calm as could be she said “Hi Dad” and proceeded to tell me that she and mommy were at Aldis and mommy wouldn’t go in the store. I immediately grabbed my wallet and coat and was out the door, I wanted to call 911 then but I had to know what happened and I couldn’t get off the phone with my daughter. Zyla told me mommy wasn’t talking but she was breathing, she told me she didn’t fall and didn’t talk to anyone. I asked all these questions trying to figure out what happened, did she fall hit her head, did she get mugged, I didn’t know but I knew something serious happened. When I arrived Staci was limp in the driver’s seat of her vehicle and Zyla was sitting in the front seat with no coat, socks, or shoes on. I checked on Staci first I asked her what happened but there was no response she could barely look at me. I checked for blood I checked her head I couldn’t find anything; next I grabbed Zyla and put her in my car to get warm then immediately called 911. It didn’t take long for the ambulance to get there they checked her out and we were off to the hospital. They gave her some meds thinking it may have been drugs but no of course Staci would never do that. Then we thought we felt a bump on her head I’m not sure if that is why they did a CT scan or if that was supposed to be the next step. Staci got first in line for a CT scan we passed a patient in the hallway that was waiting, I had a bad feeling about that. I was with her and was watching each photo of her brain as it came up on the computer, I know if not a doctor but I figured if I watch them both sides of the brain should look the same but one photo didn’t look the same. Of course they won’t tell you anything there you have to wait on the doctor to take a look. The thoughts are racing I couldn’t imagine not spending the rest of my life with this beautiful women or Zyla growing up without her strong mother. We had plans we are supposed to open up our own shop with the crafts we make, we were planning on taking a soap making class soon and I was taking her to a pottery class as one of her Christmas presents. We want Zyla to grow up on a farm and Staci wants goats. Staci has always been an animal lover she wanted to be a Veterinarian and she wants to get a Great Dane. Staci didn’t get to finish school to be a vet but she did start working at Northern Tool and Equipment. She started as cashier move up to inventory specialist and was then promoted to assistant manager. While working at Northern Staci also got her CNA certificate. Staci has always wanted to do things on her own she gardens; she likes to make her own shampoo and conditioner. Anyway I’m not much a writer just know that Zyla and Staci saved each other’s lives that day, Staci being able to somehow get a call out to me, and Zyla my brilliant three year old being able to tell me exactly where they were. I love these two girls with all my heart and I’m so proud of both of them, they are both heroes in my heart. Zyla loves that she was on TV and she has been going around telling me “I’m a hero daddy, I saved the day” and she did and I and everyone else that hears her story will know that she is right she did save the day.
