Stacie Kicks Cancer

Please visit Stacie's Meal Train https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/d37506 to see the latest updates! Thank you so much to everyone for your support and encouragement!

************************
On October 12, our dear friend (and wonderful teacher to many of our children) received the devastating news that she has stage 4 cancer that has spread to her hips, spine and lungs. There are still many unknowns at this point, but it is expected that she will undergo a variety of treatments including radiation and chemotherapy.

As many of you know serious health issues like this take a huge toll on the entire family - Stacie's parents drove down to help with the kids, and our community is working hard to fill up Meal Train to help with some smaller tasks and alleviate the daily pressure of needing to cook, so Stacie can rest and enjoy time with the kids.

But the help that the family needs is more than just that. As a small business owner (Stacie founded Essbee Learning Center just over a year ago), the financial impact goes far beyond the costs of care. There is no paid sick leave or supplemental income when you can't work, and Stacie is the kind of person who is used to just working harder to push through tough times.  That won't be an option which leaves a huge gap in the family budget.

We have set a current goal of $50,000 to help the family cover:
- Healthcare related costs of ~$20,000 (premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, etc.)
- Supplemental care
- Lost income to help offset living expenses.

Every little bit counts and your support is appreciated more than words can say.

I was notified via a GoFundMe message that not everyone on this platform receives the meal train updates - sorry about that. There are other updates on Mealtrain.com so please also look there. For convenience, I am including the update from March 22, 2021 from Stacie:

Thanks everyone for the well wishes on my scans. I have all the results now. Some of it looks good with lots of cancer shrinkage, but other areas continue to grow. The cancer is small but seems to be spreading into my legs, kidneys, and other areas. The bigger areas have been suppressed by the Keytruda and chemo, the smaller areas have grown and new areas have popped up.

This is not the news I was hoping for, I meet with my oncologist Wednesday. I was really hoping to go back to work soon, but that doesn't look very optimistic, I am a single mom trying to support my children and pay my medical bills, so your donations and meals have been amazing.

Please keep praying, I need big time prayers. I am also looking into alternative treatment centers now. If UCSD has nothing more to offer me on Wednesday, I plan to look outside at cancer treatment centers. If you know of a successful place, reach out to me.

My heart is a little broken today, so thanks for your texts and well wishes, it might take me a bit to respond. I still feel really good - so don't worry about that! I have been feeling better and that has not changed.
