Stacey (Angel) Steers needs some angels!

I am appealing on behalf of my friend Stacey Steers. She and her husband and three boys have been a dear friends to me and my family over the last few years since our eleven year old boys became best friends in kindergarten. Stacey has been battling fiercely to live her life despite her overwhelming obstacles. She was diagnosed some nine years ago with Mast Cell Activation Disorder.  The disease can make her have allergic reactions to more than they are able to identify. She goes into anaphylactic shock and has moments to react.
The family endures interruptions in normal life on a regular basis. Stacey is rushed to the hospital as part of her battle on a monthly to bi-monthly basis. Often she is not able to breath on her own by the time the ambulance arrives. She has been found alone after pressing her life alert button. Just as often, if not more, her eleven year old son or even her eight year old son has had to call 911 themselves. They have learned to remain calm and clear as they report the situation to the dispatcher and to the EMT that arrive. I've often collected the children as their mother is loaded into the ambulance to care for them until their father can arrive from work.
I have taken her to the hospital myself to save the expense of the ambulance when she felt that she had enough time before she stopped breathing. She gave herself medications and injections to slow her allergic reaction. I rushed her to the hospital where she is employed as an emergency room charge nurse.  I held her hand, uncertain that she would take another breath at all. That time, they were able to keep her off of the ventilator. She spent three days in the hospital. She's not always that lucky.
Their medical bills are all but drowning them on a regular basis. Their two youngest boys have auto immune diseases as well. So, even with what insurance covers, their portion and their loss of work due to her hospitalizations, they can't quite
 make ends meet.
Stacey's doctor is recommending a medication that could put her into remission. It's incredibly expensive at $1800 per injection for four months. Their insurance company has denied the claim and the appeal. We want to have Stacey around for years to come. So, we ask for anything that you can do to help. Any funds that we raise above the costs of this medication will be used to pay down some of the past medical bills that look like a mountain that they can't ever get out from under. Thank you for reading !
