Stacey Cook Fund

On Sunday, July 30th Stacey Cook was injured in a horseback riding accident. Greg, her husband and kids, Wyatt and Lexie went to the horse show in Syracuse so the kids could show their horse, Dandy. Stacey saddled Dandy while Greg was getting the kids ready for the show. When she mounted the horse, the saddle felt loose, so she had Greg tighten the cinch. She cued Dandy to turn to the right and he reared up twice. Stacey fell off onto her back and Dandy came over backwards on his back and landed on her right leg and rolled over it. Stacey, who had the wind knocked out of her, tried to stand, but her knee bent backwards and she fell to the ground.

Greg immediately called an ambulance where she taken to the Syracuse hospital. Stacey is 25 weeks pregnant and they were concerned about the baby as well and she was sent on to Bryan West in Lincoln. Stacey's knee was dislocated and she tore her ACL, PCL, MCL and Pateller tendon. The baby is being closely monitored and is healthy. However, since Stacey is pregnant, she can't take most pain medications and has been in excruciating pain.

On Wednesday, Stacey had surgery to repair some of the damage to her knee. The surgery was successful and Stacey was moved to the rehab floor. She will be there until she is able to function on her own and she is currently undergoing extensive physical and occupational therapy all morning and afternoon. Once she goes home, she will not be able to put any weight on her leg for 2 months to allow the other damaged ligaments to heal. Once the 2 months are up, she will then have to undergo more physical therapy. By that time, she will be having her new baby.

This puts a huge financial burden on the Cook family. They do have insurance, however insurance will not cover a lot of the expenses incurred. Also, Stacey is self employed running her own in-home daycare. She's not able to keep her daycare open during her rehabilitation period and will note be able to reopen until January 2018.

I'm asking you to help ease the financial burden if you can. Stacey has been my best friend since middle school and is the kindest, sweetest person I know. She has always done all she could to give back to the community, to Cub Scouts, the Auburn Christian Church, 4-H and so much more. We are also doing a t-shirt fundraiser for Stacey and those can be purchased below directly on my website (http://auburndesignshop.com/index.php/fundraisers/stacey-cook-fundraiser/
) or through an order form. The deadline for shirt orders is 9/15/17. Shirts will be available for pickup on 9/25/17 at the Auburn Design Shop, located at 826 Central Ave in Auburn, NE. There are options at checkout to have your order shipped or delivered directly to you.

All proceeds will go to the Cook family to use towards medical bills and household costs at their discretion.
