St. Francis de Sales Oratory, Sulphur, LA fund

Last January, at the invitation of The Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles, Louisiana, the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest established the Saint Francis de Sales Oratory in Sulphur, breathing new life into a building that started originally as Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. In 1985, it was repurposed as the Sulphur Judicial Center. The aspect of turning a courthouse that used to be a church back into a church is quite a challenge.

The courthouse includes many interior walls which are not original to the building. While many of those walls need to be removed, a few of them can remain for the sacristy, office, classroom, and social hall - all essential rooms for the future mission of the Oratory and the edification of the people in its community. The Oratory will bring something both old and new, something that is very much sought worldwide - the full experience of the traditional liturgy in the sacred language of the Catholic Church.

Canon Jean Marie Moreau has been assigned to this new apostolate and needs help with a fundraising initiative that aims to reach $600,000.00.

About the Institute of Christ the King

The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest is a Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right, whose goal is the honor of God and the sanctification of priests in the service of the Church and souls. It's specific aim is missionary: to spread the reign of our Lord Jesus Christ in all spheres of human life. Our work is carried out under Mary's patronage as the Immaculate Conception, to whom the Institute is consecrated.

The Institute was founded in 1990 by Monsignor Gilles Wach and Canon Philippe Mora in Gabon, Africa, where  we continue to have growing missions. Today, the motherhouse and international seminary of the Institute are located in Gricigliano, in the Archdiocese of Florence, Italy.

Recognizing the importance of the deep harmony between faith and culture, liturgy and lifestyle - and understanding the power of beauty to attract the human senses to the things above - the Institute since its inception has celebrated the Mass and other sacraments according to the Extraordinary Form, the ancient Latin liturgy bequeathed to us by the saints. As Pope Benedict XVI has explained, "What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too." Great care for solemn liturgy, complete fidelity to the doctrine of the Church and the Holy Father, and awareness of the central role of grace, especially charity - these are essential elements of the Institute's spirituality, which is drawn from its three co-patrons: St. Benedict, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Francis de Sales. Our motto, taken from St. Paul, is "Live the truth in charity."
