St. Croix Support Fund

Donation protected

This GoFundMe is to assist in the restoration of St. Croix by providing supplies which will contribute to the comfort and clean up of the island.  I was deeply moved that so many people offered thier support.
At first, I thought there was nothing we could do....the airport is closed, USPS is down, but after some brainstorming I think we found a way to assist!

My parents, Ken and Cynthia Holmes, are the owners of Cruzan Gardens. They will use their location as a means to pass out supplies that were bought with the funds in this account.

I was finally able to speak with my mom about the needs of some of the islanders. Here is the break down of the items...
• Water is a necessity.
• Cat litter is used to soak up water spots in homes.
• Tarps and ropes will be used until roofs are repaired.
• Gloves for debris clean up.
• Portable chargers until electricity is turned on (these can be charged at generator stations).
• Mops and solution to clean up.
• Battery operated hand fans to keep cool.
* Item list break down after comments*

More items may be needed, or different items my be bought depending on the stage of recovery the island is in when the GoFundMe is closed (I will lock it down by October 13th).

The Plan
I am coordinating with Cruzan Garden’s vendor (Florida Hardware) in Miami to ship items down using their account information, but I will pay using the GoFund me funds. The vendor will have to get the supplies to the cargo hold by 12pm on Wednesday, and will take 5 days to reach St. Croix. My mom is using her store during the curfew hours (12-4) to open her store for business and to pass out supplies bought with these funds, free of charge to those in need.

STX Repair Information (as of 9/25)
Sources tell me all mail systems are down until further notice, the airport is closed, and one of the ports for cargo shipments was burned down.  As of now the only way to get supplies into St. Croix is through a cargo company called Tropical Shipping.

There is a mandatory curfew in effect, which only allows people to travel around the island and get supplies from 12-4.

Pharmacies, gas stations, grocery stores are opened during curfew from 12-4, but will only allow in a maximum of 10-20 people, causing lines of people waiting to go in for supplies.

Thousands of people are standing in the hot sun, with estimated wait times longer than the curfew is even open. Some people wait in line for 3-4 hours and are not able to get into the store for supplies, There are even accounts of people passing out from heat stroke.

I would like to try to get these items to them by October 23rd, which means the funds have to be locked down by the 13th.

I know St. Croix and the Vrigin Islands has brought each of us a fond memory, it is a beautiful island full of wonderful people. Let's get thier homes back and the people smiling. The sooner we clean up St. Croix the faster the blenders will work.  After all, those Pain Killers aren't going to mix themselves.
