Everyone who has walked through the doors of Saint Bernard's church remembers the twin bell towers. To many of us that received our education at St. Bernard's, it is even more so. Though many of us have moved away, we will always remember the sound of those bells. Whether it was the 6:00 A.M., 12:00 P.M. or 6:00 P.M. bell, it reminded us of our faith and called us to recite the Lord's Prayer, or the Angelus.
As of today, the two bells in the south bell tower still ring loud and strong. However, the north bell tower is structurally unsound to hold the big bell. If something isn't done soon we may never be able to hear the big bell ring again.
So, to preserve that wonderful sound for future generations, the church has started a Capital Campaign entitled Moving Forward in Faith and established a foundation [non-profit 501(c)(3)] with the same name. Through this campaign and foundation it is the intention of St. Bernard's to raise the necessary funds to insure that the bell tower will be around for generations to come.
That’s where you come in! A generous alumnus has put up a starting pledge of $15,000 to be used as a matching gift. What a great start! Your gift, at whatever level you are able to give, will help us reach our match. Along with the other projects that this campaign addresses, including work on the school buildings, the overall total estimate for all projects comes to approximately $800,000.
But, the one thing to stress is that you are not alone in this project. Many current parishioners have already been generous with their giving as well. With the total raised to date over $500,000 we are well on our way to having the capital necesary to repair our bell tower. It is going to take everyone’s participation to get where we need to be, but with God, all things are possible.
Please consider helping out our cause to preserve not only the building, but our memories as well.
