The Friends of St Andrews Park (Steve Perry, Chair & Jonny Gibson, Membership Officer) wants to ensure that children have access to exciting, stimulating and durable equipment in the play area. Following surveys of play area users in 2018 and 2019 and detailed consultations with local parents, the Friends group is aiming to fund a varied and challenging structure similar to that pictured here for children aged 7 upwards. In 2019 we raised funds for younger children’s climbing and play equipment which has proved very popular.
The current rope and timber structure for the older age group is fraying, there is no Council budget for replacement, and so the Friends group has prepared applications to landfill trusts for new equipment. However some funders require a contribution from the applicant, and in the first instance FoSAP needs to raise £5,000 in order to access funds from one trust. Other applications are pending.. The aim of this crowdfunder is therefore to enable FoSAP, together with Bristol City Council, to secure the future of the play area for the next generation at a time when children have been deprived of so many regular developmental activities during the pandemic.
Who are FoSAP?
The Friends of St Andrews Park are an independent voluntary local user group with the purpose of being a forum to discuss ways of promoting more effective, beneficial use of the park to the wider community. They endeavour to keep this beautiful green space in the heart of Bristol as a well used and vital hub for people of all ages.
