Tough Opportunity

The two young ones in this photo, are our children. They were placed in foster care when they were 3 and 4. They remained there for 10 years (alleged mental illness being the main issue)until we could be reunified. Physical/ Emotional, or drug abuse was not involved in the removal. They have been back with us for 10 years. I am responsible to repay the $45,205.69 in aid and care (plus interest) they received during that period.  I am being garnished $300.00 a month (low to some).I applied for a Compromise of Arrears and was approved. This brought the total down to $9427 (Awesome, right?). This must be paid in a lump sum as the total debt is spread over 3 cases as opposed to just 1, which would have allowed me to make payments. Unfortunately a Reunification COAP was rejected as our kids are no longer minors. This would have also allowed me to pay the reduced amount over time. The funds raised would be directly applied to the debt. My daughter has become independent and my son is still at home with his mother and I. To be free from this would benefit the 3 of us immensely and possibly allow us to get out of the motel trap, or even be able to obtain an inexpensive car with the $300 a month longer going out and an actual tax refund!
