My cousins, Hannah and Brandon Simiyu, are both currently in the University of Minnesota Hospital facing life-threatening heart conditions. On March 16, 2018, Hannah underwent a five hour open heart surgery to implant a left ventricular assistive device, LVAD, to increase her heart function. Hannah, a 27 year old mother, faces three more weeks of hospitalization and another four weeks where she must be under 24 hour care and stay within 30 minutes of the University Hospital, 150 miles from her home.
Hannah's brother Brandon, age 36, is currently in the same hospital facing the same condition with surgery considered in the coming months. Brandon's liver and kidneys are also damaged due to the lack of blood flow to his organs caused by his heart failure.
Their mother, Theresa, is the sole caregiver and provider for the family at this time. She has taken a leave of absence from her job, also 150 miles away, to be at the hospital around the clock and will need to be with Hannah continuously during her extended recovery. Theresa also cares for Brandon and Hannah's combined five children, ages seven through eighteen. She has exhausted all leave and PTO at her job.
Our goal is to raise $12,500 in order to meet the family's basic financial needs and their expenses to stay near the University Hospital once Hannah and Brandon are discharged. Prayers for this beautiful family of faith are also appreciated during this difficult time.
