Lulila Beras Med Expense - Cancer

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have. These words linger in my mind day in and day out. As much as I want to break down and cry, I know I have to be strong for her.
For the past 22 years, my mom Lulila Beras (Dalila) has been treated for Depression. Three years ago she had a break down and her diagnosis was changed from Depression to Psychophrenia. The doctor explained that the medicine she was taking was no longer effective on her. Now we understand what was happening to her was way more than Depression itself.
In search of treatment, my mom came to live with me in Florida in 2014. The doctors continued to treat her for depression. She was doing fine and continued her treatments as instructed. Two years went by and around the 2nd week of March 2016 mom began complaining of back pain. She didn't want to go to the hospital at the time because, if she did, she knew she would not make it out in time to attend the Commemoration of Jesus Christ. We are Jehovah's Witness. Despite her struggles, my mom has been and continues to be dedicated to her faith. I have always known my mom to be a strong woman so I assured her that she was ok! But I was wrong.
On March 20, 2016, after attending our Sunday meetings, we sat and watched a movie together. Mom said her back pain was getting worse. I told her we were going to the ER and surprisingly she agreed to go. Little did we know we were about to face the most dreadful news anyone could ever imagine. At 1AM the doctor came in to the room and told us that he would be keeping her. The tests they ran revealed a possibility of lung cancer. WOW!!! That was unexpected news. They started to do more and more intense tests on her and when the results came back, we were not ready. The Doctor explained that she had Stage 4 Cancer. No words could ever explain how I felt hearing those words that night. I began to question back in disbelief. How could she have lung cancer if she has never smoked? But there are so many factors that contribute to cancer. Her cancer has aggresively taken over her body. It spread from her lungs to her spine, brain, and bones, and they can't operate on her. Her situation is very advanced but they offered her Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments as viable options.
My Dad had to resign from his job to take care of her full time while she undergoes treatment. She has began brain Radiation. She has lost all of her hair and is suffering from a mental break down.
I am reaching out to you, my friends and family, for support to help give my mom a fighting chance. Funds received will go towards her medication and treatments. She also needs to be on a special diet since she has been diagnosed with diabetes.
