Spreading Rolligion - Skating For Scholarships
Donation protected
Ever since the creation of the Golden Gate Park Skate Patrol in 1979, I have always wanted to use my love and joy of roller skating to help others. From skate-a-thons from SF to LA, Skate Against Violence, Skate Against Hunger, Skate Against Crack, to fundraising events for many different nonprofits over decades, this is something that is very important to me and my family.
In December of 2024, my son and I went to Dallas/Ft. Worth for an event called “Skating for Scholarships.” It was presented by Church Burch (https://www.chuckburchscholarshipfund.org). He has established a scholarship fund that has given over $100,000 to young roller skaters to go to college. The experience was so inspirational we have decided to incorporate Skating for Scholarships into our event, Skate Golden Gate – Skate Week San Francisco.
We are asking you to make a donation of any size to be awarded to college-bound students through the SF Achievers Program (https://www.sfachievers.org). My son David is on the staff of this organization and helps young people in the SF School District prepare for college and apply for grants and scholarships.
From July 15 to July 20, 2025, we will present Skate Golden Gate – Skate Week San Francisco. We will create a roller skating rink just steps away from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. We will also have events at the Church of 8 Wheels Roller Disco and at 6th Ave. Skatin’ Place in Golden Gate Park. Our goal is to raise $5,000 and to give 3 $1,000 scholarships and 4 $500 sponsorships.
The scholarships will be awarded on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The website is nearly complete, but we plan to have everything ready to roll in the next week. You can still check it out at http://www.skategoldengate.com
Please reply to [email redacted] if you or your company wants to participate!!!
