Spreading Beauty to The World: Kenya

On November 14th, I saw a TikTok video from @uglowgirl2. It intrigued me because it reminded me of how chasing my passion for makeup would’ve been different if I grow up in Rwanda. I’ve been blessed to chase my dreams and now work for the Laura Mercier Channel Marketing team. I’ve always wanted to be apart of a movement that helps more people have access to makeup. Especially supporting individuals use makeup as a trade to make a living in developing countries. There is a universal want to feel beautiful, and we should all have the opportunity to indulge in it. In the U.S makeup is overpriced and inaccessible for many. I can only imagine how difficult it can be to chase this career path in countries where it's even more inaccessible. Right now I am creating makeup kits to support two makeup artists. The current amount is going towards supporting two girls to kickstart/continue professionally do makeup in Kenya. Below is their individuals' story.

Nana is from Kenya. She is the ideal makeup artist I want to help. She is talented, has passion but because of her circumstances, she is unable to do makeup professionally. Here is her story in her own words. “I love makeup and I'm 18, I want to start to do it as a business. I used to create videos on Instagram but my family pressured me to delete them. Makeup is really hard to find here and it's super expensive and I don’t have enough capital to afford products for professional work. My parents wouldn't buy it for me cuz it's not something they like but the products would push me forward. I decided to charge really low because I think my products are embarrassing to work on other people. I make it work on my face. I lack good products which kills my confidence and are a major setback for me to actually make my own money. It would be really nice if you could help me.”

Moureen is a professional makeup artist in Kenya. She is already a pro, I want just to gift her these products so she can continue her journey. I really like @uglowgirl2 because not only is she sharing her passion for makeup on social media, but she is also teaching girls in her community how to do makeup. Thus, I want to send her a box of makeup so she can teach more girls, and have more products to try on her social media. I have already reached out to her to ensure that she is okay with me sharing her story and having her help start this movement.
Long-term goals:

In 2021 I aim to work with beauty brands to either sponsor makeup kits or donate makeup products. In return, I will review their products for my audience. Thus, by supporting my social media pages you can contribute to this cause, learn about different products and techniques. But until then I am collecting donations to continue running this amazing cause.

In the near future, I would love to support more makeup artists who live in developing countries have access to products. Of course, I would also like to make this sustainable, but for now, let’s start with one makeup artist at a time. We could also donate to those in the U.S who lack access to makeup. You can message me at [email redacted] if you have any additional suggestions/resources. Tag me or email me more stories of individuals like @uglowgirl2. I will also be sharing the shopping, packing, and sending the box process on Tiktok. My username on there is @aniphabeauty.
