Sponsorship for our farm dogs

What is The Farm?

We at Muscat Dog Adoption have nearly finished setting up a new farm location to house the dogs while we look for their forever homes. We still have kennel hand, Hussain, who feeds, cleans and socialises the dogs throughout the day. We also have a group of dedicated volunteers who socialise and walk the dogs on certain days throughout the week. The running costs of the farm are 725 OMR per month.

Why sponsor a dog?

The running costs of the farm are high and this is without vet bills and travel costs for the dogs who get adopted abroad. We have space for a maximum of 30 dogs - that's a lot of food needed! Every dog is vaccinated, neutered, given flea and worm treatment and microchipped. Your sponsorship will be used to help with the costs of keeping your chosen sponsor dog safe and fed at the farm each month.

How much is it to sponsor a dog for one month?

You can choose the amount you would like to sponsor each month. As a guide, if all 30 dogs are sponsored at 24 OMR each, then we will reach the target amount of 725 OMR each month!

How long do I need to sponsor a dog for?

That is completely your choice. You can sponsor a dog for one month, two months or even 12 months! You will be given a certificate of sponsorship to show our appreciation for your support and an information sheet for your chosen dog!

Who is Muscat Dog Adoption?

- Muscat Dog Adoption (MDA) is a dog rescue organization, established in 2012, run by a group of dog-loving volunteers in Muscat, Oman. We aim to rescue abandoned and injured dogs in Muscat. Once in our care, the dogs receive necessary veterinary treatment such as vaccinations against diseases, neutering/spaying, worm and flea treatment and any other treatment that may be required. The rescued dogs are then taken to our farm where they are placed alone or with another dog in a large safe kennel space. There is a great kennel hand who feeds the dogs twice a day and keeps the kennels clean. The dedicated volunteers visit the farm in their free time to walk and socialise the dogs, teach them basic commands and monitor their health and behaviour. This helps us to assess the dogs' personalities and determine what kind of home would be best suited for them. Some of our dogs are lucky to go into foster care which is great for them to have more one-to-one attention, be house-trained and have regular walks in a variety of environments.

The difficulty of animal rescue in Oman:

- Oman has no animal welfare laws yet and as a consequence, there is no government funding for charities or shelters. It is therefore very challenging rescuing animals with limited resources.

The difficulty of rehoming dogs in Oman:

Local adoption rates are very low each year. Wadi dogs are not popular in Oman and are viewed by many as feral or just street dogs when in fact, wadi dogs make wonderful pets. They're incredibly smart, loyal and loving and all deserve a home and family of their own. Out of the many dogs, we rescue each year, less than a handful find homes locally. We are therefore hugely reliant on adopters abroad to find the forever-loving homes that our dogs deserve.
