About A group of young professionals from Nigeria, England, and Canada, living and working in Kingston, Ontario, have come together to sponsor a refugee's transition to life in Canada. Through the Blended Visa Office-Referred (BVOR) Program, private residents can come together to support the settlement of refugees in Canada, providing financial, practical and emotional assistance for the first 12 months of their lives in Canada. Our group of 5 core members are supporting a young, 24 year old man. He has been forced to flee his home country, where he faces the ongoing threat of persecution, and where he is denied the right to be himself and live his truth. We have chosen to form this group to help address the urgent need to provide refuge to persecuted people around the world. As Chosen Collective, we want to meet that demand, but we need your help!
Our ask With your support, we hope to guide our friend through the first 12 months of his life in Canada, and to ensure his security and stability beyond that. This means finding and paying for: - A place to live - Furniture - Clothes – including suitable winter attire - Food - English lessons - Healthcare - Mental health services - Mobile phone bills - And so many of the other basic necessities we take for granted. In addition to our own fundraising efforts, the BVOR fund will support 6 months of income for this young man. While this is a great help, it does not cover all of the expenses we know he will incur living in Kingston over the next 12 months. We are asking for your donations to help welcome our friend to Canada. They will be managed in two ways: 1. In the short-term, to cover start-up costs (housing, furniture, clothing, etc.) 2. In the mid- to long-term, to support his first year in Kingston by being placed in a trust account.
Next steps We will provide regular updates to donors on the progress of our application and the journey of this young man. If he does not arrive in Canada, we will reimburse donors. Initially, funds will be managed by the Finance Secretary for Chosen Collective. If you have any questions, please get in touch by emailing us at email@example.com We share a vision that this city can be a place of welcome for young people to be themselves, honour their heritage, and live their truths with dignity and pride and without fear of persecution. We hope you do too. Thank you for your support.
