Otford Farm Horse Riding is a small, local, family owned farm. Located in Otford NSW Australia.
We offer people from all walks of life the opportunity to share our love of horses through guided trail rides and also lessons and camps.
We have recently been fighting our way through with the drought, fire, floods and have now been hit with the economic blow of the Coronavirus preventing customers from coming through our gates.
We struggle to keep operating on an everyday basis, without this new hurdle.
We push through for the love of the animals and love of the job. These animals are our lives, we are lucky enough to have a team of dedicated staff who live and breathe for the horses, many of which have been selfless enough to give up their wages to work voluntarily through this tough time. Just so we have enough money to feed and maintain the 38 horses we accommodate.
We are not a business whom can close their doors and hibernate for the next 3-6 months. As you would be able to appreciate there are huge behind the scenes costs involved in maintaining the animals to the best of their condition.
Each horse eats on average between 6.8-9kgs of food. This means we have to feed them 99.75 bales of Lucerne hay a week as minimum, this is on top of them grazing on grass. Which at the moment is very scarce out there on the property.
We buy our Lucerne bales for $18.70 each including GST and delivery. This equates to $1865.30 each week.
Our goal would get us about 5.5 weeks of fodder for the horses, and would give us a bit of time to re think our business plan and the best options for the welfare of the animals.
I know this is such a big ask and we have never asked for help before, and we don't expect it. But any little bit will be hugely appreciated.
