Sponsor a South African Child

Tax deductible
We are group of Berkeley Haas School of Business MBA students going to South Africa for an international business class from March 25-30th.

While we are there we will be visiting the African School for Excellence at 29108 Puseletso Street, Tsakane, 1550, South Africa. It's an incredible education model that we are passionate about, so either skip to the "donate" button now or keep reading to learn more.

Our goal is to sponsor at least 12 orphan children by donating the cost of 1yr of tuition which is ~$800.

ASE is redefining affordable secondary education in South Africa, which has a staggering unemployment rate of 27%, near the all-time high. The young adult unemployment rate is double that at over 50%! Affordable quality education for all is needed now more than ever and ASE is blazing the trail and seeing incredible results in only five years since the school began. Using ASE’s system, ordinary students in Tsakane are achieving results five times above national averages in Mathematics, and are outperforming the nation’s wealthiest learners in Mathematics and English. ASE is creating a quality, affordable, scalable education model from the ground up. ASE attributes their effectiveness to their "unique approach in each subject - scholars rotate from direct instruction, to independent practice, to peer-based learning. Instead of assessing scholars’ development based on their exam scores, we’re creating environments where grit, creative problem-solving, emotional awareness, and abstract reasoning are cultivated and measured within our academic framework."

We have the unique opportunity to collectively make a meaningful impact on a young, promising education system that could change millions of lives in the coming years as this model is refined and taken throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and ultimately the world. This is NOT just a donation to help a few kids improve their education, although it will directly do exactly that. This is a chance to help kickstart ASE and grow to reach a breakeven point where it becomes self-sustaining, a critical step in proving to the world that quality education can indeed be affordable, scalable, and sustainable. With all of the charitable opportunities available supporting amazing causes, it is often overwhelming to decide what to do. Our program at Haas is visiting this school because ASE is questioning the status quo and reinventing education.

$5 will support a student's entire education for a few days, but it will also build the foundation for a new way of educating South Africa's youth. $100 will not only support a student for over a month, but will also help to ensure the next generation isn't living in 50% unemployment. $800 will sponsor a student for an entire year and at the same time directly impact ASE's ability to prove out a business model that is desperately needed around the world. We are raising $10,000 in one week to sponsor 12 students and support the growth and continued success of ASE. Contributions are tax-deductible and you will receive an receipt upon donation. Funds go directly to the school, and every dollar received by ASE goes directly to individual student tuitions. We will send out updates and pictures from our trip to show you where your donation is going. Please share on your social media channels and with friends and family. Support the rebuilding of a nation after years of economic hardship and political corruption. Support the ASE business model. Support Haas. Support education. We thank you deeply for your support.
