Channel 7 News Coverage - DROUGHT RAVAGED FARMERS NEED OUR HELP.
We are fostering poddy calves right here in the Sydney suburbs of Duffys Forest & Terrey Hills!
Poddy Calves are calves reared by hand. This is usually due to them being abandoned by their mothers or perhaps the mother has died during delivery.
Our farmer Jim, is from drought-stricken Barraba, in northern NSW. His cows and calves are dying on a daily basis. These calves must survive for Jim to maintain his breeding stock throughout this drought and have a viable business when it breaks.
Calves require 3 bottle feeds a day, drinking up to 2 litres per feed. This is a time-consuming job for farmers who have so many other daily chores on their land. So, we have offered to house & feed around 15-20 of his calves at our properties in Duffys Forest and Terrey Hills for up to 3 months or until they are eating regular feed and are strong enough to return to the farm.
No matter how much you have to spare, your money will go directly to feeding and caring for these babies.
Where your money will go:
$20 - Stable bedding (sawdust, straw)
$30 - Calf Feeding bottles
$30 - Lucerne Hay
$135 - Premium Calf Milk Replacer (6 calves = 1 bag per week)
Any left-over funds will be donated to purchase stock feed for Barraba farms who have been buying in feed since January and everyday essentials for farming families in the area.
Alternatively, if you have time to volunteer, we can put you in touch with farmers needing physical help out on their properties in the Tamworth - Barraba areas.
